Local author Mary Bogdan pledges to donate 50 pence to the Hastings Pier Fund from every copy of her book ‘Simsian’ that is sold. The launch of the book Simsian will take place at the Hastings Pier shop on 10 September, 2011 at 11.00 am. Both Mary Bogdan and the illustrator of the book, Marilyn Comparetto, will be present to sign all books purchased on the day.
In the first chapter of Simsian the scene opens with the story of James, a boy from 21st century Hastings, and his friend who are ‘caught’ exploring the abandoned Hasting Pier. As the story unfolds James inexplicably arrives on the shores of Simsian where in a confused state he stumbles across the other 'Islanders'.
The story of Simsian, rising from those seas of dreams into an island, was to become not only the home but also the prison of children who were swept to it from different eras and backgrounds. Faced with the challenge of survival against the battle of the unknown and the creatures that dwelt alongside them, the 'Islanders' share a unique bond, the desire to get 'home'.
Simsian, a breath taking story, will take the mind beyond the realms of imagination, captivating readers from the age 8 to infinity.
The original artwork created by Marilyn Comparetto will be on display in the Hastings Pier shop during the launch on 10 September.
